Logistics Partnerships with SmartWay Transport Partners

Did you know that together, rail and truck transport consume over 35 billion gallons of diesel fuel per year? Which translated into emissions represents 350 million metric tons of carbon dioxide annually. The SmartWay program is a voluntary partnership between the freight industry and the EPA to reduce air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions, improve fuel efficiency, and strengthen the freight sector. It is anticipated by 2012 that freight transport is expected to produce over 450 million metric tons of carbon dioxide—a 25 percent increase over today’s levels. Therefore, the goals of the SmartWay program are to reduce the impact of freight transport on the environment. Ultimately, reducing between 3.3 and 6.5 billion gallons of diesel fuel per year. PSA partners with carriers that are in the SmartWay program; demonstrating we are practicing fuel saving strategies and staying on the fore-front of emerging technologies.
